Young Heroine Illustrates War Efforts
Author: Guy
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (PRWEB) February 13, 2012
The Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress; the North American B-25; the Curtiss P-40E; the Grumann F4F-3 Wildcat ? to many these terms are akin to a foreign language. But for the intrepid young heroine in Mardiyah A. Tarantino?s newest novel ?Alice at the Home Front? (published by iUniverse), spotting these aircrafts leads to unexpected adventures.
?Alice at the Home Front? is set in Providence, Rhode Island, at the height of World War II. The realities of the era made an indelible mark on a coming-of-age Tarantino.
?As a child I was inspired by the unity and solidarity which swept over the land during World War II,? says Tarantino. ?We as children willingly joined in the sacrifices made by our parents at the home front for the soldiers at the war front.?
Tarantino revisits many of these memories through her protagonist. ?Unforgettable Alice,? Tarantino describes her young heroine. ?Her humor and persistence will appeal to readers of all ages.?
In ?Alice at the Home Front,? Alice works diligently at learning to recognize U.S. and enemy aircrafts, hoping someday to earn a medal for sighting a German Messerschmitt. Her dedication to the war efforts leads her to the Red Cross, where she becomes a dedicated volunteer. Armed with a whimsical imagination and her devoted childhood friend, Jimmy, who is serving in the Civil Air Patrol, Alice navigates the strange world of war with the grace of the young and the fortitude of the wise.
?Apart from Alice?s appeal, young readers as well as adults will be reminded of the strong solidarity binding U.S. citizens on the home front and the soldiers at war.?
