Th world premier of “Have You Ever Had a Beard?”, a new movie featuring Calvin Johnson of K Records/Beat Happening.

In an intellectual title weight bout, raucous music writer Chris Estey goes toe to toe with cagey music maverick Calvin Johnson about beards and other mysteries of life.

“Have you ever had a beard?” is a study in contrasts, illuminating the lyric heavy songwriting of Calvin Johnson vs. the ebullient music journalism of Chris Estey. The film documents their first meeting ever, in which both men perform on the stage of a vintage 1910 theater, Columbia City – a Seattle theater that’s played host to everyone from Bessie Smith to Jimi Hendrix.

Standing at ground zero of a series of music movements from Rriot Grrls to Grunge, singer/songwriter Calvin Johnson and his label K Records, spawned a music scene unrivalled in the indie music world. Both raconteur and sensitive artist, Calvin’s deep baritone booms across a generation of inspired vinyl. Despite his history, this film documents Calvin performing his new work, singing solo as he spits literary bop prosody in the form of three songs.

In contrast, bearish Chris Estey, with his boisterous laughter and almost masochistic need to be irrepressibly self-confessional, reads stories from his life, each memory spurred by a song on his favorite album, “Phil Ochs’ Greatest Hits.” In parallel tangents, his life story unfurls from mobile homes to LA flops, all to the soundtrack of a Phil Ochs’ seminal album.

The movie will be playing for just one night only in Portland. Calvin Johnson of K Records will be in attendance to perform a couple of songs as well as answer questions.

Also in attendance will be Directors Kathy Wolf and Pat Thomas. This project is their co-production movie debut; Kathy Wolf is an aspiring screenwriter best known as “chickalou66” via her YouTube animation clips utilizing found footage and stop motion animation. Thomas is an A&R consultant for Light in the Attic Records as well as the author of a forthcoming book on Fantagraphics.

This former Nickelodeon star (of Drake & Josh fame) brings songs from his new EP on tour with him this fall. Since becoming a household name via the hit Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh, Drake Bell has evolved into a bona fide international music, television and film star. He was most recently seen paying homage to the network that launched his career as star of Nickelodeon's live-action/CG adaptation of The Fairly OddParents, "A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!" opposite Daniella Monet (Victorious). A new EP, featuring four new songs produced by John Fields (Jellyfish, Rooney, Jack's Mannequin, Jonas Bros) and Bleu, was released digitally on June 28, 2011. The first single, "Terrific," hit #1 on the iTunes Mexico Rock release chart and A Reminder released at #5 overall. With two other successful albums under his belt, past tour sell-outs of 3,000-8,000 seat venues, 10 U.S. and International Nickelodeon and Teen Choice Awards and the new EP on the way, 2011 will continue to be a big year for Bell in music. A huge fan of the harmonies and melodic pop-rock of the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley, as well as vinyl albums, Bell turns out to be an old soul, learning how to play guitar from none other than The Who's Roger Daltrey, with whom he worked in the 1998 movie, Changing Destiny. With the indie release Telegraph and his first major release, It's Only Time (Universal Motown 2006), Bell found himself maturing, both lyrically and musically, in part to a hectic touring schedule, including Mexico, where It's Only Time and the single, "I Know," both topped the charts. Over the last several years, Bell has gone on the road with both Ally & AJ and Corbin Bleu, regularly playing 3,000-seat venues and now plans to hit the international touring circuit. Bell's past acting credits include playing John Cusack's son in the HBO film The Jack Bull and receiving a 2000 Young Artist Award for Best Supporting Young Actor in a TV Movie or Pilot. He also had a memorable role in Jerry Maguire as the son of a hospitalized hockey player client of Tom Cruise's sports agent. Bell then went on to roles in the feature films High Fidelity and Yours, Mine and Ours, as well as on the TV series Seinfeld, The Drew Carey Show, The Pretender and Home Improvement. An appearance on Nickelodeon's popular sketch comedy series, The Amanda Show, led to his starring role on Drake & Josh, which is still popular in more than 40 countries. Bell composed all the songs he played on the show including the theme, "Found a Way." Bell also starred in Superhero Movie with Leslie Nielsen and Tracy Morgan, for which he won a Teen Choice Award as Breakout Male and composed the song "Superhero Bounce," along with College. The Newport Beach, Calif.-born Bell, whose mother is two-time world champion pool player Robin Dodson, started out as a child actor, appearing in commercial and feature films when he was five, but considers music his first love. Question by iris-galing-stotomas: where in manila can i go to audition for indie movie roles?
im a 19 year old college student from UST and i have been looking for days on the internet on how and where to go for auditions or casting calls for roles in indie movies.

im nowhere near interested for mainstream movie roles for several personal (and obvious reasons).

can anybody please help me or tell me where they indie directors usually hold auditions and when?

I don’t know anything about the film industry in the Philippines but I did find this link using google. You’re probably going to have to back track and research some of these names to network yourself in to how they handle their casting notices and auditions.
