Columbia, S.C. (PRWEB) May 18, 2012

South Carolina motorcycle accident lawyer Bert Louthian said May’s National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month is a good time to raise awareness among Palmetto State motorists that motorcycles have the same rights and privileges as any other vehicle on the road.

?It’s a time when motorcycle activity starts to pick up across our state, and it?s important to remind everyone that a large number of South Carolina motorcycle accidents are caused by the other vehicle involved in the wreck,? said Louthian, a partner of the Columbia personal injury firm, Louthian Law Firm, P.A.

?Too often, drivers don?t pay enough attention to the motorcycle on the road with them ? or else they fail to respect the bike?s presence ? and the result is a wreck that can be catastrophic for the motorcycle rider and, in many cases, their passenger,? Louthian said.

?Motorcycle safety is a two-way street. Motorcyclists should wear helmets at all times and practice defensive driving. This month, we also need to make sure that car, bus and truck drivers know that they have a duty as well. They must share the road responsibly with their two-wheeled counterparts.?

Louthian pointed out that motorcyclist fatalities increased nationwide in 2010 to 4,502, which was 14 percent of total highway fatalities for the year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The increase in fatalities renewed a 13-year trend that had been interrupted by a one-year decline in fatal motorcycle accidents in 2009.

In South Carolina, the numbers have turned grim as well. According to the S.C. Department of Public Safety, 102 motorcycle riders died on state roads in 2011, marking an increase from 82 the year before. So far in 2012, there have been 36 motorcyclist traffic deaths, the SCDPS says.

?Because a motorcyclist lacks protection and is significantly outweighed by the other vehicle, the motorcycle rider can suffer severe injuries in a collision, including traumatic brain injury, paralysis, serious scarring or ? in the worst cases ? death,? Louthian said. ?That?s why it?s so important for other drivers to be on alert when motorcycles are present on the road.?

Louthian says motor vehicle drivers can help to improve motorcycle safety by taking steps that include:

Checking their rearview mirrors and blind spots when they know a motorcycle is nearby. This can avoid accidents caused by a driver making a left turn in front of the motorcycle, Louthian said.

Leaving extra travel distance behind a motorcycle. This can avoid rear-end collisions, the Columbia personal injury attorney said. Often, a motorcyclist may need to stop quickly or change direction because of potholes, puddles, ice or other obstructions, he noted. He suggested a cushion of 3-4 seconds.

Never try to share a lane with a motorcycle. For the same reason a car driver wouldn?t share a lane with another car, they shouldn?t do so with a motorcycle, Louthian said. The motorcycle should be treated as another vehicle at all times.

When motorcyclists are injured in a collision that is caused by another driver, it?s important for them to contact an experienced South Carolina motorcycle accident attorney, Louthian added.

Too often, he said, the insurance company for the other driver will try to put blame for the accident on the motorcyclist or contend that the motorcycle rider?s injuries could have been lessened if they had been safer. The insurer is simply out to minimize its losses, he said.

?The bottom line is that when other motorists fail to see bikers or don?t take the care they should to avoid a crash, they have failed their duty,? Louthian said. ?They need to be held accountable, and the victims of their negligence need to be fully and fairly compensated.?

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

SMART is reporting record participation in the 8th Annual Commuter Challenge, a cooperative event this month hosted by members of the Transportation Choices Consortium to coax more commuters to leave the car at home and take alternate transportation to work or school. In the first week of the month-long promotion, 628 Metro Detroiters had signed up for the 2012 Detroit Commuter Challenge?more than triple the overall participation in years? prior. Just in the last week, an additional 100 people have signed up.

New this year is the Business-to-Business Competition, a friendly battle among local employers for the coveted ?Most Green? title. At this time of this release, Compuware Corporation was leading the Commuter Challenge with 68 percent of registered employees commuting green, followed by Blue Cross, Blue Shield.

?We?ve ratcheted up the promotions this year, particularly among Detroit?s most progressive employers,? said John Hertel, general manager of SMART. ?We are grateful for the enthusiastic corporate support, and expect even greater success as our other partners gain traction and new commuters begin sharing their positive experiences.?

The average round-trip commute of Commuter Challenge 2012 participants is 50 miles. The current 628 registered participants together will save nearly 50,000 miles of personal drive time for every one week of SMART or other alternate transportation.

?Metro Detroiters are more interested today than ever before in learning new ways of getting to work or school, especially given gas prices and increased support and flexibility of employers,? Hertel said. ?Changing how you get around?even if it?s just a few trips a week?is an easy way to save money, reduce your impact on the environment, reduce stress, and get some extra exercise into your day.?

2012 Commuter Challenge participants can win prizes for taking the bus or other alternate transportation during the month, including Tigers tickets, hotel accommodations, gift cards to popular eateries, DIA passes and more. Learn more at facebook.com/detroitcommuterchallenge.

Commuter Challenge 2012 is sponsored by the Transportation Choices consortium, which includes Compuware Corporation, Detroit Bikes!/Detroit Synergy, Detroit Department of Transportation, Detroit Transportation Corporation, League of Michigan Bicyclists, Michigan Department of Transportation, MichiVan, Commuter Vanpools/VPSI Inc., Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation, Transportation Riders United and SMART.

Serving since 1967, SMART is southeast Michigan?s only regional public transportation provider, offering convenient, reliable and safe transportation for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. SMART?s Fixed-Route and small bus services connect people to employment and educational institutions, medical appointments and shopping centers. SMART is supported by federal and state funding, local contributions through a transit property tax millage from opt-in communities and bus fares. New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2012

Practically every working adult has felt the effect of the “Great Recession,” as it is now being called, and The Tickets Guide has saved the day for many Americans out of work.

It all started in late 2007/early 2008 and 4 years later, the United States still hasn’t completely shaken off the brutal effects of the economic downturn. We’ve all heard the stories–wages have been cut, jobs have been slashed, companies have bitten the dust, and people have lost their homes. These are all characteristic symptoms of a recession taking hold, but despite the passage of time, things haven’t quite been the same.

Some have sat back and taken the brutal hits, one by one. “Work longer hours” seems to be the common elixir against bankruptcy–that is, for those who can get the extra hours. This strategy has worked well for some but the inevitable effect is a kind of fatigue that may have been worse than the financial hardship to begin with. This has left many searching for alternative options, and some have taken their talents to the world wide web to try and make ends meet.

For many–primarily men in their 20s and 30s–ticket brokering has been the best of all possible worlds. First, it can be done from the comfort of your own home as well as from the office (if you can avoid getting caught). With the right organizational skills, any place with a computer and internet access is suitable to run a ticket brokering business. Two, it requires very little start up capital compared to other business ventures–perhaps only a few thousand dollars to start with. And three, it is relatively easy to learn–conceptually, at least. Buy low, sell high. That’s pretty much the basics of ticket brokering in a nutshell–no special training or mathematical formulas to live by.

For years, The Tickets Guide has led the way in teaching people how to become a ticket broker. The website, created by ticket broker Brandon Baker, is stocked with blog posts that explain crucial aspects of the ticket brokering process–from what tickets to buy, where to sell them, how to deliver them, and little known facts about the industry. For those who are motivated to dive into this industry head on, The Tickets Guide offers a step-by-step comprehensive eBook (Ticket Broker Blueprint) that takes the beginning ticket broker and teaches him exactly what steps to take in order to buy and sell tickets for a full-time income.

When interviewed, Baker delivered a statement: “Despite what you’ve heard,” Baker says, “ticket brokering truly isn’t a difficult thing to master. The problem is that 90% of beginning ticket brokers quit halfway through because they are eager to get their hands on anything and everything, expecting it to turn a profit. The truth is that only a tiny, tiny percentage of all available tickets will turn a profit. Our book shows you how to distinguish that tiny percentage from the rest. And once you’ve learned how to find the tickets that will turn a profit, a lot of my clients find themselves addicted to discovering high-profit tickets.”

Ticket Broker Blueprint itself is 80 pages long and contains over 100+ images to make the process even easier. Some topics include:

which events to buy tickets for
what cities and venues sell the best
where to find presale passwords
how to properly ship your tickets
the biggest rookie ticket broker mistakes

Brandon does warn, though, that ticket brokering isn’t for everyone: “Temper your expectations. Many people hit by the financial crisis might be in a desperate and compromised position, needing funds quickly. Ticket brokering is not something you should do in a rush, as that will only end up losing you money in the long run. Ticket brokering takes several months to turn a profit, which may be too long for many people. Ultimately, though, a few months is nothing compared to starting a standard brick-and-mortar business, so the industry is attractive for that reason.”

All in all, Ticket Broker Blueprint has been received extremely well and continues to be the go-to source for the beginning ticket broker. And hopefully, by the time the economy stabilizes, many will have found themselves profiting more from buying and selling tickets online than they did at their old 9-5 jobs!
